Election rant

Obama barely knew his father. The email rumors about his religious affiliation are just that: rumors. Probably spread by the Clinton machine.

I find neither Democratic candidate to be acceptable. Mrs. Clinton is for the murdering of unborn children. She is for taxing the nation at an astronomical rate to cover her “wonderful” national healthcare package. How else would she pay for it? This is similar to what they have in Canada, where patients have no choice about which doctor they can go to, and the waiting period for appointments is very long. When you remove healthcare from the private sector and begin limiting doctors’ and nurses’ salaries, because they now work for the government and not for patients, you open a can of worms that can’t be caught again.

In fact, stop putting everything under the sun in the hands of the government. They don’t operate these things efficiently to start with. Any business or education should be in the private sector. The government isn’t an educator, isn’t a business operator, and certainly isn’t our nanny. The government’s purpose is to protect citizens from enemies, both within and without. Terrorists, criminals, and others who would do harm would be the enemy. My family doctor isn’t the enemy. The homeschool parent’s down the street aren’t the enemy. Unplanned children aren’t the enemy. The business owner isn’t the enemy. And certainly, God is not the enemy.

Obama has distanced himself from the pastor’s teachings at the church he attended. Aside from that, there really is no hard evidence that he is Muslim. It’s all email rumors. However, he has very little experience in leading, which doesn’t make him a good presidential candidate.

The Democrats don’t have a good candidate. I would never vote for either of them. Clinton has already been caught in some shady statements, just like her husband was and he was nothing but a scoundrel.

The candidate I vote for will have to be mindful of the lives of the innocent, the unborn, and the moral standards set forth in the Bible. He/she is worthless if the economy is the only thing they think about. When lives are at stake, money just doesn’t mean much. I firmly believe that when citizens begin to understand that doing the right thing is the right thing to do, the economic problems will begin to go away. All the legislation in the world won’t fix a broken system.

Until we all begin to take a stand against immorality, murder, and lewdness, this country is on a downhill slide. Mrs. Clinton learned her lessons about government too well from Mr. Clinton, who thought nothing of fooling around during their whole marriage. He’s a smooth talker and nothing more. She also learned her lessons when she defended depraved individuals as a junior attorney. Do you think that she has any other agenda in mind than to make us all nurse at the government breasts?

I’m sick of everyone saying things are the responsibility of the government. WE are the government. When there are benefits handed out by the millions to non-citizens, WE pay for it. And our children and grandchildren pay for it for years to come. I don’t want legislation enacted that will send MY children and grandchildren to the poorhouse, and that’s exactly what we’ve got now. The tax burden from Democrat programs is weighing our children down to the point where many are living from hand to mouth.

If and when Democrats can come up with ideas for programs that won’t cause more taxes, then I’ll take another look at them. If and when they stop preaching about how abortion is a right, then I’ll take another look at them. If and when they understand that a gallon of gas already costs too much, and they find a way for us all to be less dependent on foreign and other fossil fuels, then I’ll take another look at them.

As a widow, the complete responsibility for housing, car, groceries, and gas is on my shoulders. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t want government handouts because they always come with strings attached. Don’t pray. Don’t talk about God. Don’t believe in the right to life. Don’t be a conservative. Don’t earn a penny too much or we’ll take it all away. Don’t believe marriage is between one man and one woman, and that anything else is aberrant behavior. Don’t speak about or display anything about Jesus, even though our very calendar hinges on His birth.

Do I want to deny some help to those who really need it? Of course not! But that help shouldn’t go on for generations and that help should cause the recipient to exhibit some responsibility in paying at least part of it back.

Democrats. For the poor? No, just trying to make everyone poor and make them stay that way.

Ringtones for your cell phone

Phones, Tech 1 Comment »

I just finished visiting several sites that proclaimed they had free ring tones for cell phones. When I got to them, I found out that you still had to subscribe to an unlimited service for about $9.99 a month. Now, I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound “free” to me.

Get all the FREE RINGTONES you want sent to your phone for only $9.99 a month!

No. What I was looking for wasn’t a subscription site. I wanted a site where I could get free ring tones that were really free, as in no money spent. I finally found one and I’ve downloaded two or three from it. That’s really all I wanted! Free Ringtones does have a subscription service for those of you who change your ring tone more often than you change your underwear. With that, you can have them sent right to your phone. They’ll even send you email about new tones available.

For my purposes, though, I wanted one main ring tone - Hello, Goodbye by the Beatles. It’s a 30 second mp3 tone. I downloaded it, put in a SD card, saved it there, then put it in my cell phone and saved it in there. I selected it to be my ringtone, and voila! (as the French say), I have the ring tone I wanted! Is that as quick and easy as having it sent to your phone? No, but it really took only a couple of maneuvers to get it done, and I don’t like spending money if I don’t have to.

They have tones in WAV and AMR for most of the music on the site, if you don’t want mp3. Some music is still being worked on to convert it to those formats, though.

While I was at the site, I also downloaded Mustang Sally by Wilson Pickett. Since I want a Mustang so badly, I figured I could switch over to that one later on. :)

VoIP

Business and finance, Phones No Comments »

VoIP, or Voice over IP, is a revolutionary way for businesses to maintain communications within their own network across the country without incurring high long distance phone bills. Businesses using VoIP phone systems can use a simple 4-digit number to talk to branch offices, no matter where they are. VoIP also allows businesses to make long distance calls at a much lower cost.

VoIP utilizes a company’s current internet connection to transmit the phone calls, yet doesn’t interfere with connectivity while calls are being made. Nimbus VoIP takes it all a step further by providing free calls to any other Nimbus subscriber in the world.

Old cell phones

Phones, Those Who Look Forward 4 Comments »

I’ve got a few old cell phones lying about here. Every time I’ve changed carriers or just wanted a new phone, I’ve wound up with an old one to toss in a drawer somewhere. Now I’ve discovered a place where you can sell your old cell phone.

Anyone who is interested can sell your used cell phone. You simply contact them and they’ll send you a postage paid box to ship it to them. When they receive the phone, they then send you a check for it.

If you’d like to get cash for your old cell phone, contact them today. What do they do with the old phones? They sell them to people in other countries who can’t afford a new cell phone. It’s not a freebie for them, but the cost is much lower so it’s still a way to help.

Cell phone trading

Phones, Tech No Comments »

Just last week, Brandon was added to our ATT/Cingular wireless plan. It’s the one my daughter added me to. He got a phone just like mine, except blue in color. Well, today he traded it straight up for an iPhone.

While I know the iPhone is an expensive instrument, I just hope he didn’t get the worst end of the trade. After all, he had a new phone that did a lot. He went on the internet with it and did various other things that cell phones do now.

Yes, the iPhone is great for media play. Much better than the Samsung phone he originally bought. Yet, reviews show it to be rather iffy when it comes to actually making a phone call, although the media part is well remarked.

CNet editors give the phone a great review as a media player but it does mention the drawback of the call problems. Still, they rated it 8.0 out of a possible 10. Users, however, rated it at only 6.4. That was from 628 users.

PC Mag calls the iPhone “Fun, fabulous, and flawed”. Again, for some reason, they give the phone an editor rating of Excellent with 4 out of 5 score. They cite the poor voice and messaging, yet think it’s a great device?

Maybe I’m a dinosaur, but I thought a cell phone was for talking to people or messaging them. iPods are for playing media. This hybrid scores well on the media end, but poorly on the phone end. So, why have one at all?

I like the phone I have. I can actually talk to people on it and have a good, clear signal and voice quality. I can send text messages if I wish. I can even take pictures and videos with sound. When I want to listen to music or experience some other media, guess what I’ll do? I’ll put in a CD and play it or turn on the radio!

I don’t need a phone if I can’t talk on it. And I especially don’t need a phone with all the bells and whistles, media players, a pepper mill, and a cheese grater unless I can actually talk to someone on it and also hear them in return.

I’ll let you know how Brandon likes his after he’s had it for awhile. He can’t say I didn’t warn him.

Cell phone internet

Phones, Tech No Comments »

If I choose, I can get the internet activated on my cell phone. I’m seriously considering doing this since I can get unlimited access for around $20 a month. That’s about what my regular ISP costs me. So, here’s the question now: Can I use my cell phone to connect wirelessly to the internet through my laptop?

I’m going to be looking into this a lot closer. If I can connect via my cell phone and drop the phone line and local ISP, I’d be saving about $30 a month altogether. This would also make me even more portable as far as using this laptop is concerned since I’m currently having to connect via dial-up and am still having to sit at my desk to do so.

I’ll keep you posted on the outcome of this bit of research.

Cell phone to PC cord

Phones, Tech No Comments »

If I plan to ever load pictures or videos to my computer, or maybe download music to my phone, I’m going to have to invest in a USB cord that will do the job.

I’m checking online and have found a few sites that offer them. Most likely, though, I’ll just go to my Cingular guy and see what they have in the store. By the time I add shipping to anything else, the cost will probably be about the same.

I’m also pretty keen about getting one of those keyboards and getting internet on my phone activated. I’ll be checking into the cost of that and will post more later about it.

Cell phone add-ons

Phones, Tech No Comments »

I learned last night that I can get a bluetooth keyboard for my phone at Think Geek, if I decide to have internet access on it. The keyboard is small and not a qwerty style. In fact, it’s designed to accommodate the 75% of the population who do not use touch-typing, but rather the Columbus method - seek and discover. Since I do touch-type, it would be harder for me to use it, but I suppose I could learn.

The keyboard is called a FrogPad and it’s set up to be used with one hand. Since I really have a hard time using text on a telephone (I’m extremely slow), this might be a good alternative.

Of course, for about the same price I can also get a full-size, stowable keyboard that comes with a mount for my phone. I could use the phone as a sort of laptop that way, and for a lot less money than a conventional laptop.

This keyboard folds up small enough to fit in my purse, and when it’s open it has a “lap-lock” so it can be used on my lap or on a table without collapsing. Since my phone’s screen is fairly large, I think I might like one of these.

I’ve been considering buying a laptop lately so maybe this would be a good way to go until that time.

New phone

Phones, Tech No Comments »

I have been using a Cingular-ATT GoPhone over the last few years. The one I have is pretty much a dinosaur but it works well and I like the Cingular service since just about everyone I know is on Cingular. You know, of course, that makes them all in-network phone calls so they are free.

Now, though, I’ve got a new phone and a new service. It’s still Cingular, which I really like for several reasons. Besides in-network calls being free I also know I can get fewer dropped calls and a good signal from just about anywhere.

I’ve tried other services and they just don’t have the strong signal and connectivity that Cingular does.

The phone I got is a Samsung, The SYNC. I got the red one. The salesman said a lot of women choose that color because it’s easier to locate in the bottom of their purses. I got it because, well, it’s red! It’s the same color as the Mustang I hope to someday get. :)

My daughter Elizabeth added me on to her plan. We did all this yesterday during her lunch break. That’s how quickly you can get going with Cingular. I paid $81 for the phone and the sign on. It has a $50 rebate, though, so I’ll get some of that money back and still have a great phone.

I can connect to the internet through this phone, plus do a world of other neat stuff such as take pictures and videos with sound. All that’s left to do now is learn to use it to its full capacity. Yes, I think I’m really going to like this phone!

Samsung SYNC
Isn’t that a cute phone?
